KEEP PICKENS BEAUTIFUL November 2015 Green Ribbon Award Given To Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church.
Under the direction of Father Byrd , Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church has undergone a major renovation to restore and enhance its beauty . The Church is located at the south corner of Refuge Rd. and Hwy. 108. The church was first established in 1984 and continues to grow. Water leaks had intruded and the roof needed replacing. Eaves were added for protection from the elements and windows were replaced to prevent future leaks. Overgrown holly bushes which were too close to the foundation were removed and the property was re-landscaped by Father Byrd, Patti Spedale, Bob Hermann, and Father Byrd’s mother along with other parishioners.
These renovations are only visible from the outside. The interior of the church has also been transformed. Hand carved wooded bas-reliefs; mosaics; art work (some from local artists), icons, sculptures and beautiful stained glass windows now fill the church with beauty.
KPB would like to thank Father Byrd and the parishioners of Our Lady of the Mountain for all their efforts in helping to Keep Pickens Beautiful. SEPTEMBER 2015 KPB GREEN RIBBON AWARD
Goes to the United Methodist Church of Jasper.
Keep Pickens Beautiful is pleased to present the Green Ribbon Award to Jasper United Methodist Church, 85 West Church Street in Jasper, GA
Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is one of the attributes of the United Methodist Church. The church bell was hung in the Steeple Tower back in 1870, and still welcomes the community to worship. The cross was made from the original wood that was not burned in the fire of the old church. Some of the brick was also saved and now supports the bell. The Steeple Tower Bell was rededicated on May 11, 2014.
Pastor Greg Meadows and Master Gardeners Linda Waitsman and Barbara Ledford do a wonderful job of maintaining the gardens around the church.
KPB wants to thank the Church for its efforts in preserving its history by reducing, reusing and recycling .If you would like to nominate someone to receive KPB’s Green Ribbon or Green Thumb Award, please contact our office at 706-253-3600.
